I have a new Fox. Really neat. On the barrel next to the lug there is an X with a circle around it. Does anyone know what it means?

My 1912 "A Grade" A.H. Fox has an identical mark.
I don't know what it means; but would like to....

I noticed that this gun has a set of those good ole Krupp barrels. Wasn't Chromolox steel incorporated when they started building the XE grade guns?

I'm sure it is a C grade. It dates to 1907. The XE didn't come out till 1914. The X just has me confused.
Derrick, They are Krupp barrels, but how could you tell from the photo?

I think the X in the circle means the gun was a "second" and you should sell it to me cheap to avoid any problems!!!

Was that an early style FOX proof mark, perhaps?? I have a C grade, ser.# 14,xxx but it has the standard encircled FOX PROOF marking on the barrels. Just a thought.--TOOL MAN

Dave,
Quit trying to hord all the good foxes out there. It's hard enough trying to find a good Fox. Maybe if you were to part with one of those PAC guns you would have room for another Fox.
Bingo,
In your pic I seen stamped on each barrel "ESSEN". I just recongize that as Krupp Thysseen which is the type of steel used in making the barrels. Im sure Researcher and others will chime in but I think Krupp barrels rank right up there with the best of them. Too bad they were not offered on Parker's. So I guess one day to be able to afford a Parker with Whitworth barrels.
