Somebody mentioned the other day about a gun store that sells these cases for around $12 that they use for shipping. Anybody remember the name of the store?

I get them on sale at Academy Sports here in Jackson MS for shipping, particularly right after hunting season is over in Jan/Feb. However, y'all don't have Academy up your way, so I don't know if there is another discount store that you might look up, or see if you can get the cases from their online store.

The availability of Academy stores also has become an issue with people looking for Yildiz shotguns because right now Academy is the only Yildiz dealer in the U.S. The problem is that they do not sell on-line, won't ship guns and will not sell FTF to customers from further away than a contigious state, for some reason (I am not sure if this is company policy or Federal firearms law.)

Anyway, hope that helps.

Mike,
Do they come in their own cardboard sleeves?

FWIW;

I too use hard plastic cases to ship Custom Projects to clients.
I buy them in bulk and no they don't have cardboard cases. Fed-Ex large boxes are free and by putting 2 1/2 together I have a cardboard sleeve that protects the case. Have not had any damaged as of yet in 10 years of doing this practice.

I started with Koplin hard single rife cases. Koplin has discontinued this case. Now use Doskosport. I miss the Koplin cases. They stack better and were longer in legnth

Brian as Des said they don't come in cardboard. I use the same ones Doskosport. I can't find any that cheap anymore.

I bought off Ebay a few months ago a cheap plastic take down case for around $40-45 which came in a cardboard box that I have used for round trips via priority mail to gunsmiths and that has worked well. I get it back.
For shipping sold lower priced used shotguns I need something less expensive and some of them are long guns so any type of case that costs half of that is fine but I was hoping for a cardboard box that it came in. Doesn't sound like I will find it.

I have used this method in the past but it is necessary to camoflage the gun case with another box, as was mentioned. I was directed to Midway USA when I asked for a source of shipping boxes on another BBS and decided to use their 200# boxes with eggshell foam. Not cheap, but stout (I've shipped one gun already), reusable, and less obvious.

I prefer 6" Schedule 80 PVC pipe. Just for grins I usually write Part # 765H349 or some such somewhere on the tube with a big Sharpie. You can also buy caps or just make some. About as bulletproof as it comes in my opinion, and does not scream gun to anyone who sees it.

i agree about the pvc and shipped a good bit of ebay stuff that way but i did have one problem with a package that was "lost" for a while. it finally showed up but the PO said they have lots of trouble with round packages simply because they roll and are a lot easier to get misplaced on trucks because they don't stay put very well and end up going elsewhere than intended for a while.

a buddy of mine found a plastic case for holding arrows somewhere that did come in a good cardboard box. i think he said it was $20. it didn't have any foam but all sorts of foam is easy to get. guns have to be taken apart to fit in it but it held a heavy barrel FAL. we used it back and forth for quite a while till one particularl dealer threw the box away.

i also had a really good shipping box i kept for that purpose and sent a perazzi to collectors firearms. when it was sent back they'd thrown my box away and sent it back in what amounted to a piece of cardboard sheet wrapped around some styrofoam ends. pure piece of crap packaging. i can't back up what everybody else is saying on the thread about them regarding how well they pack guns because that was certainly not my experience.
