Thanks OWD and the choke cones are 2-3/4". The muzzles have a flat spot filed on one side of each barrel and the flat spots just touch.

I was in the FtWorth Cabelas last week and looked at about fifteen Syracuse Lefevers. Some had obviously been cut, others had the fine hair gap you are talking about, and some had a flat filed like mine with lots of contact. There were some that didn't kiss that I concluded had not been cut but I could be wrong. I also found a wide varation in choke cone length on the guns with similar patterns to your descriptions. What do you get when you cross an elephant with a rhino? Elephino!
