I could swear I saw data for light 1.25oz loads using RD somewhere....thought the pressures were even moderate enuff for regular use in NID or newer designs?

I cannot find it now though!

Seems it was listed in an older, say pre '70 book, anyone recall it or have any other data along those lines?

This is for Winchester AA hulls or the new AA HS, 1oz load

#32 Red Dot 17.5 CCI 20 WAA12SL 1164 fps 6,800 psi.

#31 Red Dot 17.0 Rem 209 WAA12SL 1160 fps 7,900 psi.

This is with 1 1/8 oz load.

#32 Red Dot 17.5 CCI 209 WAA12SL 1164 fps 6,800 psi.

The first number is bushing number for Mec, I would suggest you measure the powder yourself.
These statictics are from the new Lymans 5th Edition.

I don't remember but I don't think there are any Remington low-pressure reloads using RTS, STS, Premiers, or Game Loads, Game Clubs.

I thank you for those data points....but I was looking for data on the 10ga, in one and a quarter ounce loads, short or long. Looking for low stress/dollar practice loads for clays. I have about 30 many fired Remington hulls trimmed down to 2 7/8" and a BAG-O-SP10 wads.......countless Federal huls awaiting as well.

Quite a few of my hulls already went through the BP trial-by-fire, think I only have about 3 burn-throughs though. The rest are pretty roughed up, (BP or not) quite literally as the internal surface of the hulls are quite rough after the first firing?

Any low payload/easy loading suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point.

From Lyman Ideal #40 ( early 1950's" ) 27 grains of Red Dot and 1.25 oz of shot. No wad , primer or pressure listed. It's to old for my guns but may offer a starting point???

I shoot 30 grains of Longshot with CCI primer for the 2 7/8 10 ga in 1 1/4 lead load.

Sure it wasn't Green Dot you remember? Alliant lists about half a dozen loads for Green Dot with 1-1/4 oz in the ten that run 8300 to 8800 psi.

Green Dot is a little slow for a big bore like the ten and light shot loads like 1 1/8. Green Dot should be OK for 1 1/4 ounce loads. You are inviting bloopers in cold weather if you load GD in 1 or 1 1/8 ounce loads. I see no reason why a load of 22 to 24 grains of Red Dot wouldn't work under 1 1/8 ounces of shot over an SP10 wad. As a matter of fact, I would even use a faster powder like Bullseye but I use Red Dot just because I have a lot of it around the house. It is all I use for 12 gauge. In a big hole like the ten gauge, my favorite loads of 23 or so grains of Red Dot shouldn't be exceeding 7500 PSI when propelling 1 1/8 ounces of lead. In a gun like the original poster mentions, a nice heavy NID, the pressure of a 1 1/4 ounce load over Red Dot should be OK, but the pressure level may be higher than you would want to use in a light Damascus gun. It's too bad that Sherman Bell did most of his experimenting with powders that are not as readily available or as cheap as good old Red Dot.

Mark, looking at a Alliant Powder booklet that was in a Mec 600 Jr. Mark V that I just bought, it lists 2 loads using Federal Plastic w/paper base wad:
Green Dot 29.5 grs. 1 1/4 oz shot, CCI 209M, Rem. SP10 1265 fps @8,300 psi.
Green Dot 29.0 grs. 1 1/4 oz shot, Win. 209, Rem. SP10, 1265 fps @8,800 psi.

Remington SP Shell
Green Dot 28.5 grs. 1 1/4 oz shot, CCI 209M, Rem. SP10, 1265 fps @8,800 psi.
Green Dot 29.0 grs. 1 1/4 oz shot, Win. 209, REm. SP10, 1265 fps @8,800 psi.
Unique 31 grs. same componants as Green dot, CCI 209M, 1265 fps @7,500 psi.
Change to a Win. 209 everything else the same, 7,600 psi.

All these reloads are for 3 1/2" hulls, the funny thing is that it seems kind of odd about the left over room in the hull.
On the Alliant Powder web site, under 10 ga. lists the same loads but it tells you to see note. Well the note is to put in anywhere from 4-6 .135 cards in the bottom of the wad to fill the hull.
So using a hull cut to 2 7/8" following the receipes, don't add the .135 cards.
This is only my opinion, plus you might have to roll-crimp the hull or possibly wilth only 1 1/4 oz. it might 6-8 crimp.
Red Dot wasn't listed for any of the loads in 10 ga.

The 8,800 psi is getting away from low-pressure but the other ones should be good.

I would look at Unique for your ten. Use to load the short ten with 1 1/4 ounce and I think the pressure was in the 7500-7700 psi range. Used to have to add 20 wad cards to fill the space. Sorry that I do not have the exact load, it was ten years or more ago and yesterday is hard to remember some days.
