It would really matter where you are. Dove over a waterhole does not take much. Blue quail are a different story. Myself I like 5 & 20.

What is IC to one is not IC to another. The measurments can vary greatly and no on is going to pattern it and give you a percentage.

This is exactly why the screw-in choke was invented. Classicioi wants one gun for all upland. That's a big variety. When I wild pheasant hunt a smallbore, I use M/F. Wild Calif Vly Quail need a cyl, skt or IC first shot.

Trying to find the "perfect" chokes for all the variety is asking too much. You need to buy more guns

Chuck,
I totally understand all the different situations that can occur while hunting diffent birds but I was hoping to find a good compromise on the chokes from others experience so I can use the gun for both dove and quail.

I shoot a Mdl 21 20 Ga most of the time but would like to use the Parker Repro 28 alot more.I patterned the barrels and the right barrel(.022) was ok at 30 yards but the left barrel(.038) was horrible.

Thanks for your comments

This has always been my approach. I see I'm not alone.

There's always one, and I guess I'm it this time. I will not address constriction in thousandths, because results may not track to those increments with your loads in your gun.
I like an IC and Modified combination in a quail (bobwhite) gun, but I like full & full in a dove gun. You can always let them get further away, but if they ain't coming closer you need to be able to go get them.

Briley? Ain't dat dem folks dats makes doze new fangled screw in choke gizmos? Hell, just have dem run a pipe threader down the muzzle and fit a set of dem dere Thin Wall thingamabobs.

All kidding aside, why not have it modified to accept Briley Thin walls? If you are going to use it for a variety of shooting situations it would make sense, would it not? OR, is is heresy and sacrilige to even consider screw in chokes on a double? IMHO you already ruined originality by having the chokes opened anyway.

Let me also recommend Mike Orlen. If your barrel diameter is large enough to allow it, Mike will install screw-ins for a much cheaper price than Briley, do it quickly and do a fine job. Go to his website to see what the minimum muzzle OD requirements are.

I have several 28 ga. guns that I use for dove, quail and grouse, choked from Cyl/IC to Mod/ImpMod. I would recommend Cyl/Mod, which would be super for 90% of quail or dove shots (however, I would prefer double triggers with that combination).

My 28ga. Parker Repro. has 28in. barrels marked M/F. Don't care to have it measured, as it does fine on doves and quail. Oh yeah, double triggers too! ;^)

The 28g is limited no matter what, add to that the quail populations are low in most areas and after the first week of doves, you need more gun.
They're to the point of being just cute!
