H&R did a very brisk business in single shot shotguns. From 1900 to 1905 they had to enlarge their factory 3 times to accommodate the ever increasing demand. They made them in almost every gauge. Before the 410 came on the scene, they were producing them in 44XL. I have rarely seen one with the original case coloring. Very early they were using charcoal, but quickly switched to cyanide case coloring. At least that is true of the examples I have seen. As far as I know, they were all stocked with walnut. Then again, I could be very wrong...

Congratulations on the find, enjoy.
