I was wondering what the purpose of a mid-rib bead is? I suppose the two beads are to line up behind each other so keep you eye level with the barrel so the shooter does not shoot high, or low of his target. Is this correct? -IM

Some of the trap shooters like 'em, but, if you are looking at the beads hard enough to see them lined up when you pull the trigger, you are going to miss the bird. I have a 'coupla Mossberg beaters that came with them, and have just been too lazy to take them out, but, if you ignore them anyway, they don't hurt anything. Best, Ted

They are meant to give you an indication that you are looking straight down the rib. But as Ted stated, many find them a nuisance.

It's a compensator. Offsets the weight of the front bead.

I think it was a way for a manufacturer of front beads to expand his very limited product line.

Yeah, but twin ivories look nice against rust blued barrels. But you only get to look at them after you're finished shooting. Chopper

I think they look classy. If they have a real function, it's to give you a hint how well the gun fits you and if you're mounting it properly(all this before calling for the bird). Neither should ever be looked at once the bird is in the air. Look only at the target. JL

I'm right handed shooter with left eye dominant and installed middle bead on one of my guns to try. It needs some time to get into the way of shooting with two beads, but the results were great, 100% improvement.

I find the middle bead very helpful. It helps correct a tendency to not position my head properly. The middle bead is a "double check" that helps me have the correct mount and sight picture.
