I am not posting to argue with your statement;however, I would like to note that,at the beginning of my teaching career, things were not so nice. From 1965 to 1969,I taught in the public school system of Portsmouth,Va.We had a number of student assualts on teachers and I had one on me.Most of the time, guns were not involved. But, sometimes they were.To the point that some principals and assistant principals were armed. I remember one principal, after school hours, being assaulted and firing down the hall at them.Another time, afer a football game, resulted in the police having to shoot and kill a "student" who had turned into a public meanace.Perhaps it is worse now,but in the last years of my career, when I was trying to teach adults in classes in the public school systems,I was approached and threatened on many occasions by very young boys and I believe that they meant it. So,my thought is that teen violence is not new. Ever seen "West Side Story"?
