Just read a post farther down, poster registered 3 months ago and made one post, 5 star rating is shown. Nothing against the poster but can some one please explain? Reminds me of the police chiefs giving tv interviews when some thing tragic happens. Almost all of them have 5 silver stars on both sides of their shirt collars. They must think they are like Eisenhower or MacArthur.

Dogfox I believe you start out with 5 and go down from there if someone gives you a lower rating.

You can request fewer stars as well. I asked for, and got, " no more than two stars" from Dave.

I've wondered about this myself! Me, for example....new kid on the block, limited knowledge about doubleguns but a deep quickly developing interest in them, and I'm rated five stars! Figured it was just an administrative mistake....wish I could have advanced that fast back when I wore young Sailor's crackerjacks!

The stars are mysterious little critters, I have been up to five and back down to two and not a clue as to what makes them come and go. Didn't feel any smarter with five..........

Not too long ago I was actually a full "5-star"  , but took issue with one of our posters who was stumping for this eventual nation-wide lead ban we're being threatened with. Got slapped down to 'three'in a hurry, which led me to conclude it's a tough crowd we have here! Seriously though, ignore the stars and say what's in your gut within the policy limits of this board....or none of it is really worth very much! Robt.

What's hilarious is that a (presumably) grown man would get his shorts in twist and 'retaliate' by actually taking the time to go and de-star someone. I assume these are the same guys who like to pull the wings off flies when they were 12.
