Do you think Mssrs. Webley would be ashamed to call it a screw grip Proprietary gun ?

Uh, uh ... HJ, Mssrs Webley does specifically call a top extension system of this sort a Screw Grip, and in bold. See first two words Screw Grip ... (p 5 PDF/or p iii catalog of 1914 catalog). It's there quite literally in B&W for all to see....

I saw it...it matches Lefusil action to a tee.

And it doesn't match the Evans guns for sale at Cabelas.

Would you have me believe Mssrs. Webley printed a catalog put in a detailed drawing of a screw grip action...(that he himself designed)...made a gun with his Screw Grip Action calling it his Propietary gun...called it so....then modified the Screw grip and used it in other guns and didn't call them Screw grips ?

Would you have me believe all lever bites are Screw grips ?

Hj, in case you aren't getting this, the doll's head versions predate the simple slot extension version by some 20-25 years. The Proprietary was one of the later versions of the Screw Grip action, a less expensive version, too. The Screw Grip actions occur in boxlock and sidelock and with a wide range of original quality of barrels, lever work, engraving, wood, and finish. Screw Grip SL's were made in very good grades, but were never "best work" grades. Best work at Scott was the Premiere, which sold at "Purdey money."

Excellant discussion on Webley $ Scott and their contribution, which seems extensive, on the English trade. I'm starting to believe that either P.Webley & Son or W&C Scott & Son or both made all the guns in the white or finished for just about everybody.

Actually it predates catalog by 31 years: 1883 (at least in America; I think UK patent is 1882)

Go here: http://www.google.com/patents?id=SwRCAAAAEBAJ&dq=webley+and+brain

Note the doll's head top extension in both profile and from above on p. 2 of patent drawing. (Figs. 3&4)
