Anyone have any idea of who made the above DB? Can find no proof markes, just the date of 1882. Any idea of the value of an L. C. Smith 12ga Mod. Fulton. Going to another estate auction tomorrow with these two guns available. If any of you guys that have been so much help to me are into old pistols, the add also lists what they describe as Vintage pistols, one a Colt 41ca. double action in good condition and the other they call a 7 shot pepperbox 22 cal. made by Smoker Model 1.

Ernie:
It could be the CONTINENTAL Tradename used on rifles and shotguns by J. Stevens Arms Company but I don't know right off if any were hammer guns. Is the 7 shot pepperbox of French manufacture?

The Continental is likely a Belgian clunker that was offerd in Great Western Gun Co catalogue, in 1888-89,, The Fulton (Not an L C Smith) is a $100 to $500 gun depending on condition..MDC

You guys can both amaze & confuse me at the same time. The Continental is either a Stevens Tradename or a Belgium cluncker and The L>C. Smith is a Fulton and not an L.C. even though it says L.C. Smith. I don't know if the pepperbox is French or not, The only writting on it says Smoker- Model. Smoker just doesn't sound French to me.
Thanks for your imput.

Is the 1882 a patent, or the like, date? I would guess it to be American if it has a patent date. But there aren't any proofmarks on the receiver or barrel flats. Ole "Smoker" is probaby the SMOKER Tradename on revolvers from Johnson, Bye & Company, c.1875.

Ernie: The Colt caliber .41 revolver is probably what they called the "THUNDERER" (the companion "LIGHTNING" being caliber .38) They are normally seen in price ranges between $500.00 (average) and $1,500.00 (fine) Both have a distinctive rounded butt (Billy the Kid used one) The L.C. Smith marked FULTON was manufactured by Hunter Arms Co., Fulton, N.Y. 1890-1950. Prior to that Smiths were made by W.H. Baker & Co. and L.C. Smith Maker in Syracuse, N.Y. and after 1950 were made by Marlin Firearms Co., New Haven CT. L.C. Smith Collectors Assn. http://www.lcsmith.org could tell you a lot more. I can't tell you much about the pepperbox although it sounds like a Saturday Night Special. Hope this is helpful, Best Regards, George
