Is the current repair solid? If so, the cosmetic work is not too hard. If it is suspect, you will need to take the break apart. That is do-able, but more effort and higher skill level.

The cosmetic work looks to me like soaking in some brown stained Acra-glas epoxy and recutting the checkering would get the job done. In that case, you would need the smallest Acra-Glas kit from Brownell's and a single line checkering tool.
