A gun like that would certainly draw attention at the skeet range. I would love to have one but my power ball ticket only matched one number.

Fantastic stuff! Some I would own if I had the disposable funds, some not. Still, it has my praise for the craftsmanship whether I like some of the art or not.
On the Galazan comment, while at CSM I asked Tony about engraving on his guns. He said he sends guns all over the world for engraving. I agree the multi-color inlays look familiar to some CSM Fox and 21 guns of recent past on the CSM site.

It shows a very broad repertoire of well executed motifs, some remindful of earlier Russian influence. The styles or some of them go back a long way in firearms embelishment. I'm not finding the link that I wished at the moment, but this one will give an idea of some of those earlier applications from several dif origins: http://history-gatchina.ru/museum/arsenal/arsenale1.htmI think it neat that we still have capable passionate artisans who can execute works as fine as any ever produced [often better in many areas] and passionate interested parties with sufficient means to support them. Taste is a personal matter and many of these very expensive works are not really being commissioned to shoot. I enjoyed 'The Twenties', the owner obviously having a bit of fun there and I would suspect those guns are intended to be 'shooters' of some sort, even if it be only to further the mirth.

Taste is a matter of personal preference but we can all pretty much agree on what gaudy is!

Hi Bill, I hope you and Pat are enjoying retirement. The artistry is amazing. If I could afford a gun like these, I would darn well take it out and use it. Is the food and entertainment still good as ever at Prejeans? Thank you, jl

JC - In Abbiatico's book, there are a couple of bulino portraits of the royal family, which are as close to photographic realism as you can get, particularly one of Admiral Lord Mountbatten on the bridge of a ship.
montenegrin - good answer!
GregSY - I just hit the enter button twice, and was not smart enough to figure out how to delete one of the messages.
marklart - too Purdey - LMAO
Jim - Having a spell of high water right now. Some of the places you visited may be affected. The river should crest in one or two more days, so keep your fingers crossed.
Everybody else - There are three of Phil Coggan's engraved guns for sale in this country, at Dewings in West Miami Beach; a 20 ga. Purdey for $175,000; a 20 gauge Peter Nelson for $350,000 (this is the first one shown in this thread, with the multicolored gold inlays); and a 28/.410 two barrel set for $370,000. Gives a good idea of what gaudy costs.
Bill

Bill, I have the Italian edition "L'incisione delle Armi Sportive" -that was graciously presented to me by a Canadian friend I met through this fantastic BBS- and it seems it does not have the same pictures. There are some of Mr. Coggan's drawings done in preparation for actual engravings that are very realistic.
Gaudy/not gaudy: de gustibus non est disputandem. In any case the craftsmanship is amazing.
