Last Saturday at a gun show I looked at a Ithaca 16ga Damascus double with choke tubes in it. Anyone here ever seen a Damascus double with choke tube's in them? It was a first for me.

Absolutely, the name was Piper (sounds German but, it's Flemish maker). Damascus barrels demied into fluid steel receiver and approx. 2-3" fluid steel muzzle ends "factory sleaved" into damascus tubes. An "Oreo Cookie" with cream being damascus metal! Fixed chokes, but soooo cool!
Why the frown? Look at the "glass half full" now you can take Old Bess duck hunting with low pressure Fe shot!

Having milled some damascus steel and gotten a feel for its softness, I'd be extremely careful with choke tubes in damascus tubes; especially in tighter constrictions. The muzzle of a shotgun might be as thin as .012" to .015" after it's been milled and threaded. This doesn't leave much of that soft damascus material to keep the choke tube from getting pulled forward by the shot column....

Not the same as a Piper I have one. This was done about 5 year's ago he said, and as Michael said the metal looked thin around the screw in choke tubes to me. I was only looking at this gun,did not buy.

Keith Kearcher did one at least, some time ago. You may want to ask him if it has held up. I agree with Mike, the tension may cause a problem unless there is a lot of meat in the bbls.

I have a 16 ga Belgian hammer gun that has damascus bbls that look like they have been sleeved into a fluid steel breech section, but there is NO seam. It seems the breech section is also damascus, just blued. I don't know how they got that perfect transition, but it looks neat.

I believe that "Piper" is actually a Pieper, pronounced pee-purr.

I have an 1877 W&C Scott with damascus bbls and Briley thinwall choke tubes. The bbls are proofed to 850 bar. This gun is a winner at sporting clay events. It weighs 7lbs, 4oz. I use 1 1/8 trap loads.

It was Henri Pieper. Later his company produced guns under the Bayard trademark. His top grade was the Diana. There is currently a 10ga Diana grade up for auction. I am not connected to this auction. I do find the barrels interesting.
