Is anyone familiar with the quality of this Galazan case? Is there a better value for a leather and wood case out there? Thank you. Galazan

Check Jeff's Outfitters on this site. Jeff has, I feel a better value and he is a very good guy to deal with.

I bought on of Tony's Canvas covered cases, at a very good price. When I called to order, Carol asked the barrel length, and in a few days, it was here. Great product, great price.

At the other side of the design type I got one of his heavy aluminum cases for my 1935 Superposed. This will be for house storage only and for travel I will use a solid wood cheapo well insulated box with rubber tire tread Ho Chi Minh bumpers around the corners and the hinged back joint. I don't like to get Good Stuff, even cases, dinged.

I ordered two of galazan's leather and canvas cases - excellent quality, an absolute bargain - the only problem was the shipping to GB and the dam VAT tax!!!
The only thing I would change about the case is they are made from a shiny 21st century man-made canvas - excellent quality, but I was hoping for the more traditional look of cotton canvas which looks the part... does anybody know how to de-shine high gloss canvas, I have tried acetone to no avail. It wouldn't normally bother me but it does slightly let the case down imho.

Jonty, I bought a leather case from Jeff's Outfitters and like your import got hit for the VAT also. (European Sales Tax) The USPS has an agent to handle clearance and tax collecting which in most EU countries is a firm called GLS. I have dealt with their Irish subsidiary on past occasions and always had problems. Service from Jeff was fantastic, and I have no hesitation in recommending his business. He shipped as promised and the case was wrapped/packaged to perfection. It took USPS Express Mail 2 days to get the product to Ireland. It then took almost 2 weeks to get the parcel across town (14+/-miles) to me. This was achieved after several phone calls to their "customer service", a lengthy email exchange with their CEO. Without doubt GLS (and thus USPS) has the consistantly worst customer service I have encountered in years.
Costs (based on 2004 values): Gun case and Cover - $355.90 Shipping & insurance- $ 67.95 Total value $423.85 or Euro345.00 Import duty Euro10.34 VAT(Sales tax) Euro74.56 Clearing fee + s. tax Euro11.50 Total taxes/fees Euro 96.40
Total cost Euro 441.40 (+/-$560)
This cost is considerably cheaper than prices in the UK and Ireland, where similar cases (without Cordura covers) sell for a minimum of Euro 600 / Stg£400 and up. 'Spose it's worth the grief from USPS.... KM

The Galazan $175.00 leather and canvas case is a good value. My only complaints are that the canvas is an ugly mustard yellow color in a gloss (nylon?) type fabric, The straps are a little thin and it has only one latch. The economy canvas case from Jeff's Outfitters is a traditional green canvas, straps are more substantial and it has two latches. Both are well made for the price

I was thinking more along the lines of a leather and wood case rather than the canvas and leather. I'd also like a traditional style rather than the toe under style Jeff's carries. The Galazan looks pretty good, but they aren't the best pictures for seeing any detail. Kerryman, was that the toe under style you bought from Jeffs? What did you think of the quality compared to original cases? Thanks.
