Regarding the name Vinc Gihlert gunmaker or retailer, it doesn't ring any bells. But if the shotgun has proofmarks from the Weipert proofhouse, it had to be made before 1945 as that is when the facility was closed and another opened in Brno. For the years 1938 - 1945, Weipert noted various stages of proof w/ the German 1891 & 1393 rules. Weipert, Czechoslovakia used the old Austro-Hungarian until about 1931 after splitting from the empire shortly after WWI. And there is some confusion regarding the marks for Prague & Weipert from 1928 - 1931. But on December 17, 1931 a new proof law was passed and became effective on Jan. 1, 1932. Personally, I think the old Czech & Hungarian, or Bohemian, doubles are relatively undiscovered and unappreciated or under appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hello ohiojack,
In order to get an answer about value you should show photos or at least give a detailed description.
As for your other question, if the gun is marked Weipert, it was probably made/retailed before 1919 in the town of Weipert, Sudetenland, Austria-Hungary; this small town was later part of Czechoslovakia as Veiprty, again Weipert under German occupation during WWII (possibly but IMO unlikely made/retailed then), and is today Veiprty in the Czech Republic.

I either didn't pay attention in World History class, or forgot, but is Veiprty directly Cyrillic or just a Slavic name for Weipert and was it just a rename or was the city moved? Have you ever heard of the Royal Mines of Weipert?

Raimey,
Veiprty and Weipert are two names for one and the same town, used in different times and circumstances during history. Veiprty is not Cyrillic as Czech language does not use Cyrillic.
No, I have never heard of the Royal Mines of Weipert.

Correction: proper Czech spelling is Vejprty, not Veiprty

Since Yugoslavia split from the Austro-Hungarian empire and little is known about the proof marks, is there a proof mark souce of information from circa 1920 till mid 20th Century? Also, is Yugoslavia now Slovenia(since 1991)?

Raimey,
I'm not aware of any source of civilian proofmarks for Yugoslavia other than since the 1960s or so when Yugoslavia became CIP member.
Yugoslavia was a federation of Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovenia till 1991 when the Slovenian War of Independence started. Now all of these former federal units are separate, independent republics.

I had found some references to mines in the Bohemian region and one is: "Iron ore mines are in Maria Sorg, Pfaffengrün, Hauenstein, Schönwald, Lessau, Irrgang, Neuhammer, Littmitz, Kodau, Unterkodau, Putschirn, Wintersgrün, Berghaus, Neusattel, Holzbach, Ullersgrün, Granesau, Poschitzau, Großschad, Sangerberg, Weipert, Ziditz, Thein, Unternengrün, and Grasset. They have 2 Erbstollen, 13 Fundgruben, 101 Anhangmaßen, 3 large and 39 small Grubenfeldmaßen. The most important are on the famous Irrgang" from J. G. Sommer (1847), "Kingdom of Bohemia", vol. 15, pp. I-LIV [slightly excerpted]

Raimey,
I'm not familiar with these names which are old German names for places that are now in Czech Republic and have Czech names. By the way many central European places have old German names that are no longer used; my town Celje used to be officialy named Cilli in the times of Austria-Hungary up to 1918, and again during the 1941-45 German occupation.
I sold my 1993 RR turbo diesel a year ago and now drive a 1996 GMC Yukon V8, with great satisfaction. If I buy another RR it will be V8, preferably converted to natural gas.
With regards,
Jani
