These pictures are from my recently acquired Fred Williams-Birmingham. Drew House and I are trying to decide if these are actually Laminated or Twist.?

Brother Hause should already have an opinion. Nice effort on the pics. It looks to be laminated as twist would have just a bit more structure.

Drew thought it may be a Twist labeled as Laminated as it is likely a Belgium barrel used on the English gun

Stallones:

Strictly by the English definition of Laminated, how much reflection do you see looking inside the tubes; i.e., how well did the insides of the tubes polish? Or do you see signs or the character of the twist? But no doubt by the 1870s, the English were using Belgian pattern welded or mechanized Damascus tubes.

c. 1850s William Powell Stub Twist

c. 1860s W&C Scott Laminated Steel

Leighton's c. 1880 Greener with (non-Silver Steel) Laminated

Leighton's 1878 W&C Scott Laminated

On further consideration, I think it is Damascus Twist or One Iron Crolle-Twist Laminate. Very similar pattern barrels are found on LC Smith Maker Baker, H grade Lefever, and Baker Gun & Forging guns

Show some images of the insides of the tubes. What was the steel and iron mixture for One Iron Crolle-Twist Laminate? Just comparing images, Stub twist looks similar and of what was it composed(like laminated w/ nails, horseshoes which the English noted from the Spanish who noted the technique from the Persians who had to add into the brew to replicate the Indians method)? Also, for what it is worth, W. Greener considered Stub inferior to Laminated because it wasn't as hard; therefore, didn't polish was well.

The bores are bright and shiny and appear to be laminated as Drew
decided.
