I am in total agreement with all that has been said & realize that several here have studied all this far, far more than me. My main point though is that of virtually all the old writings, catalog listings etc of the "Gunmakers" & them only, they seem to apply the term "Damascus" only to those tubes in which the bar was twisted upon itself till had the appearence of a thread rod prior to winding upon the mandrel. This terminology had begun at least by the time of William Greener's 1834 book, and remained throughout the welded bbl era. Whether technically correct or not at this popint in time seems really immaterial. To attempt to change it only results in confusion with no one understanding what is meant.

Twist.

A simple twist......with no twisting.

And a very fine set of tubes at that.

Best,
Mark
