The search is easier if you will accept 26" barrels. Properly scaled .410's with barrels 28" or longer are scarce. A friend had a CZ/Huglu that he wanted to sell (cheap) but I just couldn't get past the short barrels and the goofy Schnable fore end. I have seen Huglu .410's with 28" barrels but they have always had some feature that (for me) was a deal breaker, such as single trigger or matte chrome frame or ripples in the barrels. I looked for about four years before I found an Aspen Outfitting Ugartechea .410 out of an estate, 28", DT, splinter, English grip, IC/M. I wanted M/F chokes, so I may have this one tubed. The only readily available 28", M/F, DT, scaled .410 that I know of is the Merkel 360, but they are a bit clubby and awfully pricey; very well made. The AyA 4/43 is a nice gun, supposedly available with tight chokes, but nobody seems to have anything other than IC/M or Skeet/IC. They are available with 29" barrels (I think 30" have been available in the past). Uggie boxlocks are the best bargain after the Huglus, and Lion Country Supply may be able to order what you want. AOC's are approaching the $4K level (new) so that probably doesn't work for you. Merkels are generally asking $5K used, but there was one on Guns International for $4K with opened chokes. Cabela's always has a bunch of AyA 4/53 .410's, new and used between $2500 and $3K. AT $1K +/-, it's not going to be easy. You might be able to find a no-name Basque gun with metric 28's (27-1/2"), but you'll have to look for a while.
