I think it may be a semi-rarity, but I think that in the lower grades that the value the value will not be affected. But, in the upper grades I feel that the swivels can detract from the price of the gun because of the fact that not many people like them.

Some of us would not buy a double that had no swivels. But, then, some of us do not buy American doubles.

Nik, does that not really limit your choices?? Also, the question was in regards to Ithacas which IS an American gun and to my perception of how Ithaca collectors respond to swivels. If you collect another genra of gun such as German guns which I own a few dandys, your going to have to learn to like swivles.

Timothy,
Does not limit my choices at all. I buy guns to hunt with, and that means swivels and lightweight slings are essential, as are lightweight hammer doubles. Hunting includes desert quail, turkeys, grouse, bandtails, ducks, geese. All except ducks and geese require extensive walking, with best duck hunting requiring 2-3 km walk to hunting area. ALL my hunting shotguns are Merkels, Sauers, Husqvarnas, Brownings, Carl Stegelis -- all totally reliable, deadly bird killers and clay busters, all with factory swivels (save Browning made for USA market, to which swivels were added immediately). Never had any reason to bother with USA or Brit guns.

Unless you have factory documentation of the swivels being original, swivels will detract greatly from the market value of an American double. Last I knew the members of the PGCA have yet to put an existing Parker Bros. gun with swivels together with an order that calls for swivels. I have a 28-gauge Flues Grade 1S that had swivels on it when I got it but Turnbull removed them when I had the gun completely refurbished. The only reason I had the gun refurbished was that it had ultra rare 30-inch barrels. Flues Model 28-gauges were only catalogued with 24- and 26-inch barrels.
In that I've never seen an American double with factory documented swivels, I don't know what they would add to the market price.

I have a few invoices that state swivels were ordered, one of which I own. Wasn't common but did occur with Ithaca. Also have copies of factory invoices for swivels on Nitro A Grades. What is the sn? I don't think it is a serious value issue one way or the other. JMHO.

Gun 369306 is a 1922 gun, 12 ga, 32 inch steel barrels, grade 2, made for stock. If used as a water fowl gun, I can well appreciate the use of a sling considering the hunter's hands full with dogs and a sack of decoys. I hope you enjoy your American classic.
