The new Rifleman came today and on the cover is a picture of Charlton Heston with 1923-2008 "A Patriot Lays Down His Arms". Does this seem like an inappropriate title for a tribute to the man who was famous for saying "Pry it from my cold dead hands!". Seems to me Mr. Heston would be fighting from the grave and would want to be remembered that way. -JB

We're all going to lay them down one way or the other, it's the only thing certain in this world.

I saw a program about George Burns. He made prior arrangements so that he would be buried with 10 hundred dollar bill in his jacket and a cigar. I buried an old English Pointer I had to put down with the last two pen raised quail he hunted. I think a fellow could be buried with an old double or rifle.

Best,

Mike

Eh, I ain't too into this pharaonic idea of being buried with something I'm not gonna be able to use. Lean one of my old guns up against the casket maybe, but when it's time to close it hand it to a friend of mine with my compliments.

I had a "Bizarro" comic taped to my toolbox at work depicting, presumably, Mr. Heston in a casket holding a gun. The undertaker was saying, "we can't get the lid closed until we pry that thing from his hands". This was an admiring kind of humor and it was under a "Charleton Heston is My President" bumper sticker. I'd like to think he is still fighting for our rights with the work he did and the foundation he laid. My condolences to his family as we all share their loss. On a second note, a former co-worker with a delinquent past told me a story of how he and another kid broke into a funeral home in their teens. In the basement embalming room, they found a paper bag full of gold teeth, gold bridgework, fillings, wedding rings, etc. He found it amusing that although they stole this bag of gold, their crime apparently wasn't reported to police since no report ever showed up in the local paper. So much for the notion of being buried with anything of value. P.S., I do know about things like putting separate thoughts into separate paragraphs... just haven't figured out how to do it here.
