King: True apologies are never expected, only rightly due.
Keith: This really made me laugh!
That 20 ga. L. C. Smith may be fine for partridge but your gonna be under-gunned for Condors.
And hey, I would like to think I am very similar to you guys. My nicer guns find themselves shooting at pheasants, doves, and occasional quail or chuckar, while my field grade guns are the tools that make it out into the waist deep marsh or the duck blind.
But what really change my opinion about having a nice gun in the safe is that my best friend who has been my hunting partner since I was a kid just had a heart attack last week (he is doing fine after having a stint put in). Then, one of my uncles who took me hunting when I was a kid just had a quadruple bypass and is not doing so well. He has aged so much. Finally, my turkey hunting friend just was diagnosed with cancer (he too is doing good).
As a result, I have come to the conclusion that "not only is life too short to drink bad wine," but for those of us who love to shoot and hunt, we could say the same about shooting cheap guns and hunting over a poorly trained dog.
Hence the new 578 in my collection and the 7 month old GSP sitting on my lap right now.

.
Best,
David
