After the Hunter Bros. bought out L.C. Smith in 1888 and started the Hunter Arms Co. in 1890 in Fulton, to cut down on expenses and some of the weight they did modify the receivers by doing away with the bottom receiver humps and the larger balls on the receiver. L.C. Smith made Grades 2-7, and Hunter Arms changed it to Grades 1-5. Plus L.C. Smith only made 10 & 12 ga. guns.
