Rumor has it that the famous Parker A-1 Special built for Czar Nicholas of Russia has been again sold. Steven Fjestad had a short write-up in Field & Stream over a year ago I recall-sold by the James Julia auction house to a gun dealer in Duluth MN for almost $275,000- Anyone know if Mr. Puglisi has indeed resold it, and if so, for how much. And has the "missing" Parker Invincible ever surfaced and been authenticated?

I think he resold it almost immediately. I think all of the Invincibles are accounted for.

Bill, was the "new find" at Ivory Beads an Invincible? When did that gun surface?

GregSY: How many Invincibles were there in all & in what gauges? I was told by Jim Moats of the Gun Rack in Aiken, SC that there was an Invincible located in Aiken in 16 gauge.

According to my understanding, only three original Invincibles were ever found in the remaining original Parker records; two 12-bores and one 16-bore (which records, since they are incomplete; will always leave speculation as to the originality of that Invincible gun/s for which we have no record should one surface). If my memory serves correctly, the 16-bore was shipped in 1929 and allegedly found abandoned in an attic in new condition with case and original papers. Brother Jim has been around a long time; and although I haven't visited with him in quite a while, he can really spin some yards! Who knows how much of the tales he tells are fact, or part fact and fabrication; but he has certainly seen and owned more than his fair share of interesting stuff. For many years, and years before Jim was ever around, well-heeled yankee bird hunters wintered in Aiken, SC and brought down a lot of fine double guns; some of which never left the area. Give Jim my regards next time you see him.

The most complete coverage of the history of the 16 gauge Invincible was written up in the PGCA newsletter "Parker Pages" in the issue of the recent past. Much of the history of that gun had been covered before but Dietrich Apel added some important missing links to complete the story from date of manufacture to the present. I don't recall any mention of a South Carolina connection. The history of Invincible 12 gauge #200,000 has not been written about and is known by only a few live Parker collectors and researchers. The story of the later serial numbered 12 gauge, and the last to be discovered, was written up in a DGJ several years ago if I recall correctly. All three can be viewed at the National Firearms Museum in Oakton, VA. any day of the week, no admission charge.

As I said, word is that he sold it almost right after he bought it. I think this was corroborated by one of his PGCA posts wherein he acknowledged that he had sold it. He no longer has it. It is owned by others. It's a goner. I can't tell you whether the hands in which it currently resides are private or public.

The GSBFTRFKATC (Gun Supposedly Built For The Ruler Formerly Known As The Czar) gun was an A-1 special not an Invincible.

Yes, the "czar's" gun--which even the article in DGJ indicated was of somewhat indirect connection to the czar (an officer in his royal guard ordered it, and it was never delivered)--was an A-1 special, and Jack Puglisi did sell it fairly shortly after acquiring it.
