I've seen original Smith's where the blue color seems to dominate and others where the yellows, oranges, and tans are more prevalent. And of course, everything in between. It also appears that the colors don't fade at the same rate over time and exposure to sunlight, wear, etc. The case seems to go before barrel bluing and stock finish, so if there are no traces of those having been refinished, it may be safe to assume the case is also original. As Mr. Hurst pointed out, there are gunsmiths who specialize in duplicating original colors, so just because they match an original gun doesn't mean they are original. Look for more vibrant color in the hidden areas of the water table and forend iron.
