because i've actually seen it in person and i can tell. from the finish, the checkering and the way it's made which is mentioned in my previous posts. nobody did this at home.

yeah, it's just that bad. 2 shooting buddies have those. i did find the date code probably and it's 4 yrs later (1933) than what i was expecting based on the date on another i owned that was a higher serial # by about 12k digits. actually there are two 2-letter blocks and depending on which one's the date code it could either be '33 or '38.

ran across an ad with not one but TWO forends configured just like the gun i have (so i guess whoever "homemade" mine was running quite the little cottage industry cranking these things out).

i'd still love to see an explanation somewhere for this shape. tried the remington collectors board but it was totally useless. also looked in that remington collectors book that's part of some series out now but it was as useless as the one i bought on brownings.
