Lately I have also been reading the books of Max Hastings who is not afraid to tell it like it was. His latest is 'Retribution' about the War on Japan but he has many others about WW2.

My Dad, God rest his soul, was a Lt JG US Navy on an LST, wounded on D-Day. He NEVER talked about it.
