The wood is a little beat, but the engraving is quite nice I think.

Those Ideal guns are really nice guns. Light weight, mechanically and cosmetically beautiful. Does your gun have ejectors?

A beautiful gun indeed! I own a couple of Ideals, but yours is much nicer. Enjoy it!
Kind regards,

Wow! Beautiful gun, you done good! The wood looks the way the wood on the Costo I sold you looked when I bought it. The Costo shows what a soak in acetone and 12 coats of Tru-oil can do. Double proofs too, no gurly rounds needed for that gun!
I waannt one!

Postoak, what's the deal with the doll's head extension? Looks like half-circle in plan view but the socket is perfectly circular. Too bad the RBL doesn't look like this one--pardon my French!

Rabbit, the two engraved pieces seen in the "Hole" rise up and lock the Dolls head when the action locks up. Similiar to a "Rising Bite" I believe, not certain maybe someone will set me straight on this. This baby locks up tight ! and with a nice SNAP sounds.

OK, I get it now. I'd like to see a schematic of that mechanism.

PoastOak,
I too have a Manufrance Ideal grade 6. Yours is quite a bit different from mine though. Yours has side clips and the barrel lumps come thru the action, and your stock is POW . My #6 has none of these features. Something our guns do have in common though is the engraving on the fences, they are just about exactly the same. Any idea what year your Ideal was made? Does your Ideal have the sling? The engraving on your gun is very nicely done! My #6 has very tight scroll on about 90-95% of the action, pretty similar to yours, just a different pattern. As soon as I can get to Reb87's I'll have him shoot some pics of my gun and post them here for comparison.
These Ideals are fantastic guns. They are lively in the hands, easy on the eyes, and mechanically very cool! Enjoy it and Congrats on your new Frenchie.

Best,
Dustin

P.S.
What similarities does a Manufrance Ideal have with a RBL? They are a completley different animal IMO. I would say the Ideal has more in common with the Scottish Round Actions than the RBL.
