When I was hunting grouse with my friend Mike outside of Delta Junction AK a few years ago it would have been a comfort to have a drilling, just in case. When you're not at the top of the food chain these thoughts can weigh on you a bit. Mikes advice in the event of a grizzly charge was to hold off firing as long as possible and then squeeze both triggers at once aiming for the bears face. I'm happy to say that I had a great time and never had to test out that bit of advice.

Sliver, I would be a little suspicious of a floating insert. If you want to really test it with some accurate Hornet ammunition, try Hornady. I actually have a Sauer 9.3x72R drilling with a 12" Hornet chamber insert. Mine has a brass "collar" attached at the muzzle that rides the rifling. I handload Hornet cartridges with 2 grains of Red Dot (using the smallest Lee powder dipper and a homemade funnel) for .22 rimfire-like performance. I used to use 40 grain round-nose Winchester bullets, but the accountants there didnt think they were selling well enough and they were discontinued. Now I use Sierra 40 grainers with slightly less exposed lead. With Lee collet die neck-sizing, you can reload low-pressure Hornet brass forever without case failure. I also use an aperture sight and I can shoot a quarter size group at 50 yds, which is good enough for me. If I want to get serious, I can slip in a full-blown Hornet load, or for bigger game yet, the old "Forester's Patrone".

Have fun,

C.

Mr. Kofoed,

The way the gun is done is that it has the original 9.3x92 barrel cut for the last two thirds. The 22 hornet barrel is inserted through the original 9.3 barrel and supported midway and at the muzzle with two mounting pieces. The gun is coming back from the gunsmith where it's got the action tightened. I will try some groups with different ammo see what it can do.
I have never done any rifle rounds reloading, but thank you for the info. In fact I would like a low power .22. In Montana
I just talked with Joe at the drilling hotline about the Lothar Walther .22 Hornet inserts and they seem to provide pistol-like accuracy only. You seem to get better accuracy with your insert.
