After having made some denigrating remarks about Turkish shotguns I acquired one yesterday and must confess that the damned thing is very well made. CZ has made a brilliant move in marketing these guns and anyone yearning for a neat s/s double cannot go wrong in purchasing one. Some years ago, maybe 8 or 10 I saw a heap of Huglus on one of the tables of the CADA show and they were horrible! Humpy undulating ribs, bad metal to metal and equally bad wood joining. Well, the Bobwhite model I have had a hard, feature-less walnut stock and forend. The epoxy finish was difficult to remove but after repeated soakings in paint remover I finally got the damned stuff off. Since there was virtually no grain to the wood, I stained it with Beinert's
blood red stain and finished with two coats of satin urethane.
What surprised me most was the very neat workman-like guts of the little box lock. Dovetail edges of the frame serve nicely to brace the head of the stock. The interior of the gun was as well-done as any boxlock I've ever entered. I haven't shot it yet but have no reason to believe it will be anything but a reliable little 28 bore. And so I have eaten a cold supper of Turkish crow. Chopper

Well, OK, but the work you had to do is still a PITA a gun owner shouldn't have to tangle with.

It doesn't matter what continent you run the tape on.
I wish it did.

Chopper,

Shot my 20 Redneck and my 28 Bobwhite last weekend and had a blast with them. Picking up my 410 BW on Tues when it's due to arrive to my FFL.

You are right about the wood, but these were just meant to simply be working guns. The exception is when you can pick through a group of them at a retailer, like the very first one I bought when the local store was clearing out of them, and I could pick and choose between six of them.

Supposedly the Russian ones are of higher quality, but I think they are just way too clunky while the CZ/Huglu's have great lines and feel.

I wish you well with it. Report back on it in about a year and let us know if you're still in love.
Good luck,

Chopper,
I don't own a CZ...yet. I have handled a few of them and I have been impressed. They are awfully nice guns for the money.

I'm not familiar with Beinert's. Did you mean Behlen's dye?

Gregsy, Come on, its a 700+-$ shotgun, they dont HAVE to be refinished.
Market...If I were you, I wouldnt buy one.
Jim L My 28 has, I would imagine, over 10,000 rounds through it....keeps on truckin......
They ARE good guns for the money...
Most of my hunting/shooting is done with Lefevers, but I wont put down a good honest working gun because of the brand name or country of origin...
