either type spring can break and either type can last forever. i've read that properly made flat springs are more reliable than properly made coil springs but i can't recall who said that. i doubt one can make that blanket statement with any credibility. i've had guns with both type springs (not just talking double mainsprings but all sorts) break. with today's manufacturing technology even in parts of the world not known for metal work it's no great trick to turn out properly heat treated parts from good materials. anyone who can do simple math can use a modern computer controlled heat treat oven and get xlnt results.
one guy i work with has two cz's: a 28 and a 16 and just loves them both.

I think what could be more fitting to eat crow with...than throw away utensils.

I think what could be more fitting to eat crow with...than throw away utensils. as usual it's difficult to figure out exactly what you're talking about but it sounds like you've taken the approach that if someone can't own "nice" guns, or guns as nice as whatever you've got, then they just don't really deserve to own guns at all. there's been plenty of times that i was perfectly happy to have some low end spanish sxs and they all did everything i needed them to do. a good gun is a good gun. regardless of where it comes from if it does what the owner requires it's a "good gun". looking down one's nose at someone elses choice (for cost or any other reason) of firearm is just a really low thing to do. enjoy your expensive stuff and be happy with it and let the other guy be pleased with whatever he has. and as i mentioned before, the people complaining loudest abt them seem to be the ones who don't actually own them.

Joe, has anyone ever suggested that it is wiser to keep one's mouth shut and appear a fool than to speak and remove all doubt? Have you ever added anything of value to this board aside from the occasional lowminded quip? I can do without you very nicely and suspect that most other members feel as I do. Chopper

BPguy! thats Pretty nice! I went to visit Mark DeHaan and to pick up a gun, a few years back and was blown away by some of the wood on guns in stock..jOe! ya done it again, got people mad at ya........durn...

Gentlemen,
I'm partial to Spanish guns, especially to Spanish sidelocks from the obscure and little known makers. OTOH I’m also big on value in a firearm and, purely IMnsHO, the Huglu shotguns are one of the best values on the market.
At this point in time my wife and I have 4 Huglu shotguns, a Model 201A (SxS BLNE) in 12 gauge with nicely engraved side plates, a Model 200 (SxS BLNE), in .410, engraved in pattern SGR10, a CZ imported ‘Bobwhite’ in 16 gauge (SxS BLNE), and my wife has a CZ imported ‘Redhead’ in 20 gauge. I have about 3,000 rounds through the .410, circa 2,500 through the 16 gauge, and about a flat through the 12 gauge. I have no idea how many rounds my wife has fired in her 20 gauge.
Neither of us has ever had a single problem with any of these guns, and we’ve had just a wonderful time busting clays with them. I’ve had that 16 gauge almost too hot to handle, and it just shot better and better.
For the money, they are hard to beat. There are folks who don’t like them, and run them down. And that’s all to the good. The more folks who bad mouth them, the less likely it is they will be ‘discovered’, and have their prices go through the roof – like the Spanish sidelocks.
Just my experience.

You may very well have seen my gun there. I bought it just before Thanksgiving in '06. It's given perfect service since. The gun in my previous post is the only Huglu I own, but I do have two other Turkish guns - both are Yildiz and both are 20 ga. I've had an O/U for about 2 years, and a SxS for about 6 months. Again, both have given perfect service, and they are very light, great hunting guns. Below are some pics of the wood on my SxS, not bad for a $500 gun:
