I recently bought a cased double in an English style trunk case. The felt lining has alot of moth damage.I want to refurbish it. Can I use the type of felt used on pool tables or do I have to worry about acids, dyes, ect.? Thanks in advance Dave

Good quality billiard cloth is a very good choice and comes as close to the worsted wool fabrics originally used way back when. They may even look better, as the worsted wool often shows its cross-weave a bit more prominently than I like. A yard-and-a-half will do just about any break-down, single gun case, and I've never needed more than two yards for a large two-gun (paired) case. Hope that helps.....

I have used both, and I like the wool better. Just a matter of taste. I think the most important thing I got when I went to a fabric store was some cottom batting that I used on the bottom of the case and inside of the lid. A little cushion, espically on the bottom of the case is needed I feel.

In my experience the "glue" is more problematic than the fabric. If you are able, fasten most of the fabric with the partitions and behind "slats" folded under the material at the edges. That way, only one side really has to be glued and perhaps tacked more visibly--depends on the partition set up. (The accessory area can be used to hide some of this.) The pool table material should be fine for the purpose. The cotton batting works well but make certain to keep both it and the cloth out of the humidity. Ideally, dry out the case as well before installation.

I built a shotgun case from an old, well worn violin case (I call it my "Chicago style" shotgun case). I used spray on contact cement to attach the lining. Steve
