How true LD! Neither my 525 or K80 could consistantly break the "jacked up" targets I was shooting at last night. Darn guns!!!

Hi Chopper Lump- I also have two older (Akron Ohio mfg. Pflueger Medalist fly reels- a 1494 and a 1495- way O.T. here, but there was a machinist named Franke I believe in NH used to make a "One Pfoot" base (like on the Hardy LRH etc.) for those- as the original reel foot was plated and too big for some rod reel seats. I once fly fished with a man who had a sweet three piece Leonard cane rod-and a Hardy reel for it- but whenever he was in "snobishville" he'd switch reels and put a Martin automatic on his Leonard- kinda like the guy with an Ithaca grade 7E single trap that had the barrel shortened and a Cutts Comp installed- "just to raise a few eyebrows"! I like the way you think- reflects the wisdom of your 72 years, I'm not too far behind you and I have some "cigar box" coil springs and other parts from a older sidelock double (unidentified) that I'd be glad to sent to you for either your study or usage-just for the postage if you'd like. I guess I'd go with the coil springs if "push came to shove" but that's a "gut feeling" not based in actual evidence or experience-- RWTF

Thank you, too!

I bought that gun at an Academy Sporting Goods in San Antonio, TX. If you have some Academy stores near you, and you're willing to do a bit of shopping, you can get a gun with pretty nice wood. I was fortunate to get this one. I looked at guns at one store, and the 20 ga. SxS had nice wood on one side, and very plain on the other, so I passed. The manager directed me to the Academy closest to that one. When I arrived they didn't have a 20 ga. on the gun rack, so I asked them to check the computer. Sure enough, they had one in stock but not on display. After about 5 minutes, they located it and opened the box. One look at that wood and I snapped it up. I'm sure that had it been on display, it would have been gone long before I walked into the store.

It does shoot well, BTW. The first time I took it out was to a local sporting clays shoot. We shot with an SKB, a Beretta, an RRL and a Guerrini, and we (my little Y-gun 20 ga SxS and I) took home the top score of the day (47/50). The SKB guy actually got pretty PO'd about it...

JOe, the barrels are monoblock just like on the SKBs --- another great shotgun buy of the 70's. Chopper

Amazing luck! Simply selecting the left barrel made it worth twice as much. Whodda thunk!

After shooting 1-1/2oz through the 5-1/2 pound gun a couple of times you could of bought it from me cheap - even for you.

After fussing with it a while, my money was refunded (Mark Dehaan) without a problem and a double trigger gun replaced it. Said gun is the one I have shot a bunch. At the Vintagers shoot in Raton the only gun that broke among all the shooters was a Model 21, doubling EVERY time the right trigger was pulled. I dont think that proves a thing, except any gun can have problems from time to time..

Well it proves that two brand new Huglus doubled. How many rounds had the 21 had through it?

BPGuy. there are NO gun shops around here that stock the Bob White. Well, I do take that back, I know of one store that has a 20ga., that the wood will make me yawn. But, yours has got WOOD. I love WOOD. I would rather have a 20ga. but a 28ga. would work. Heck if it had killer wood, I would drag home a 12ga.! I want the Bob White, because I have to have 2 triggers. To used to the old guns to go back to a single trigger.

Turks make excellent: wool rugs, pomegranate juice, fig preserves,.... luv those, but I'm not sold on their shootin' iron.
It's hardly surprising that Mossberg pump is such a tough gun, that's because it's a modified version of Remington 31. According to US military the Remington 31 was the finest combat pump used in WWII (with Winnie Mod. 12 being close second).

I forgot to mention, that the birch stock on a Mossberg is my favorite piece of wood in the world-when I get to chuck it up in my mitre box, and saw it off, so some little kid can go shooting. I like it even more if the little kid is watching and hopping around a little bit in excitement when I do it.
Great wood, indeed.
Best,
Ted
