Were 10 ga. ever legal for live pigeon shooting under either Hurlingham or other rules sets?

1890 American Shooting Association Rules
https://archive.org/stream/fieldcovertrapsh01boga#page/458/mode/2up
No limit on powder
In single bird (target) shooting the rise shall be:
Eighteen yards for ten-bore guns; limit 1 1/4 oz.
Sixteen yards for twelve-bore guns; limit 1 1/8 oz.
Fourteen yards for fourteen and sixteen bore guns; limit 1 oz.
Thirteen yards for twenty-bore guns; limit 7/8 oz.
In double-target shooting the rise shall be:
Sixteen yards for ten-bore guns.
Fourteen yards for twelve-bore guns.
Twelve yards for fourteen and sixteen bore guns.
Eleven yards for twenty-bore guns.
Rules for Live Bird Shooting - same load limitations
The rise shall be:
Thirty yards for ten-bore guns.
Twenty-eight yards for twelve-bore guns.
Twenty-six yards for fourteen and sixteen bore guns.
Twenty-five yards for twenty-bore guns.

In 1892 the Interstate Manufacturers and Dealers Assn., “Interstate Assn.” took over organized trap shooting. The Interstate Association’s purpose was “for the encouragement of trap shooting, in giving tournaments to foster a sport that is deservedly popular to bring together experts, semi-experts and novices, to safeguard the interests of both, and to show how a large trap-shooting event should be run.” It quickly organized the first Grand American Handicap at Live Birds, under Revised Hurlingham rules, for spring 1893. Twenty-one shooters paid $25 to compete.

At the 1894 GAH, guns were limited to 12 gauge and 8 pounds.

I've got an 1897 vintage 10-gauge Baker $100 Pigeon Gun. It weighs 8 pounds 11.2 ounces.

I have a 10 gauge Remington 1894 that has been re-stocked, the dimensions are a dead match to my Remington FE. I suspect and like to think that this was used for clays or bird shooting. It was shortened so I added an orange 1 1/2" pad, at over 10 pounds I feel this is a very "manly" shotgun! Fun for my buds at the cow pasture trap range.

Gun weights and loads at the First DuPont Grand Smokeless Championship Handicap Live-bird Tournament October 1895
https://digital.la84.org/digital/collection/p17103coll17/id/53082

The 1898 “Trap Shooting Rules” by the American Shooting Association (courtesy of Randy Davis) still listed 10g:
Charge of powder was unlimited
Shot was limited to 1 1/4 oz. by “Dixon’s measure”
Weight limit (there was no weight limit in 1890 or 1893) and ‘naked’ was not stated:
10g - 9 lbs. 4 oz.
12g - 8 lbs. 4 oz.
16g - 7 lbs. 12 oz.
20g - 7 lbs. 8 oz.
Single target rise……….Double target rise:
10g - 18 yds………16 yds.
12g - 16 yds……....14 yds.
16g - 14 yds……....12 yds.
20g - 13 yds……....11 yds.

Sporting Life.
John L. Lequin. secretary of the Interstate Association, writes us under date of Feb. 25, 1898 as follows:
“We have received inquiries from most all directions recently from a number of shooters who are probably desirous of entering the Grand American Handicap next month, concerning the weight of guns, and whether the handhold and recoil pad will be counted as a part of the gun when weighed. The subject has been placed before the Tournament Committee of the association, which committee has decided that the guns will be weighed naked.”
(Weight still limited to 8# but to be weighed without the barrel guard or recoil boot.)

Sporting Life, Feb. 11, 1899 Interstate Association Rules for 1899
https://digital.la84.org/digital/collection/p17103coll17/id/44329

The standard turn-of-the-century Live Bird and Inanimate Target load was 12g 1 1/4 oz 3 1/4 Dr. Eq., though many Live Bird competitors used 3 1/2 Dr. Eq. Early 1900s some target shooters used 1 1/8 oz 3 Dr. Eq.

c. 1914 DuPont started a advertising push to standardize the 1 1/8 oz. load

In 1919 the Executive Committee of the American Trapshooting Association voted on whether to establish the standard load a 1 1/8 oz. 3 Dr. Eq.
The proposal failed.

Not until April 1940, did the ATA disallowed 1 1/4 ounce loads.

ATA trapshooting would be a thing of the past if a weight limit were placed on shooters.

I've long thought that is something NSSA Skeet needed. For the 20- and 28-gauge and .410-bore events, no more nine and a half pound tube sets -- something like a max of 7 pounds for a 20-gauge, 6 1/2 pounds for 28-gauge and 6 pounds for the .410-bore.

You talking about a weight limit on the guns or on the shooters?
