I have had a C&R License ever since I gave up my chapt. 01 license maybe 10-12 yrs ago. It seems like there are a few dealers who don't accept the C&R. I haven't gotten a straight answer from any (who don't accept C&R) as to why.

The one reason I got was because they could not trace the C&R easily.

There has been a fair amount of discussion of this problem on CalGuns. Consensus for CA seems to be that the 01 FFLs are either confused by our lame regulations or are just trying to protect their turf and force everything to go thru an 01.

i had Cabelas decline my C&R years ago. Just dealer not knowing and not inclined to learn. I've had several dealers not willing to let me walk out with a gun, but willing to ship it.

Never had a problem with mine. 20+ years. I've had to educate a few dealers as to the requirements but in the end it always came through.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

They should the requirement on these licenses..As long as you deal with antiques
Firearms they should treat the holder the as the business FFL holder. We pay for a useless piece of paper.

Most cases it simply comes down to CYA from a FFL holder who just does not know the rules. I accept them and always have.

Having worked in a retail environment I do understand why some shop keepers decide to not honor them. I once received a Henry .22lr lever gun from an individual, magazine fully loaded and one in the chamber.

The only issues I've had with someone not excepting my C&R for a qualified gun was due to the shops in-house policy regarding them.

I've just learned to ask if they will accept my C&R & after discussing it through, if they still won't accept it, I thank them for their time & explain why I'm not going to buy the gun from them.

FYI, The last time I checked Cabela's was accepting C&R's

Same here. Imho, most problems are uneducated 01's not knowing as much about their profession as the 03's that buy from them.

Same deal on walking from a shop that won't take a c&r.

Same here. If a dealer doesn't want to honor a valid license issued by the same agency who issued his license, I politely thank them and let them know that I won't be doing business with them.

Imho, 97% of the time it is a mix of ignorance and apathy. Others have had a bad exp with a, for example, non paying c&r bidder in the case of auctions.

I've only once had a problem with this. Found a nice Persian carbine on GB. Emailed seller ( pawnbroker) , to see if he took c&r. Yes. Bid, won it. Emailed for a few days to arrange pay and send in c&r. By 4th day i Called in to pay. Guy I talk to won't take c&r. Seems its a partnership. One guy does the online stuff, the other guy does the OTC stuff. OTC guy won't take c&r, online guy had to take time off for an emergency. OTC guy wants money by 7th day or reports as non pay bidder. It got a little hairy. My usual local xfer dealer for non c&r stuff was on vaca. I scrambled for 2 more days ( weekend at that ) to find an xfer dealer. Day 7 , Monday came and finally original guy calls me back, I pay, send my c&r, all good. He's just not I office for a few more days, so it wont ship. ( no biggie ). He is backlogged from the emergency off. In the end the otc guy has to help out to keep the biz rolling. I do get my gun but got stiffed on feedback. Felt almost like editing my fb, but just walked away and left it alone.
