Nothing is fair about selective use of today’s “standards” on actions based on what happened 10, 20, 50 or 100 years ago. And when you can take things out of context or do just selective bits of information like half a sentence without the rest of the sentence or without any clue what the entire conversation was about your judgement becomes subjective at best and total nonsense at worse.
50 years ago rape was a capital crime in many states. Today murder is not even one and rape has been downgraded to what seems like a very moderate offense. But hate speech is now a hate crime when 50 years ago it was not a crime at all. I’d rather have the old standards than the new ones.
