Experts and Aficionados,

I am not an expert on double guns but have come into possession of one and am trying to decipher what I can. Any help with this puzzle would be greatly appreciated!

First, I believe it was made by "H. Roedl in Prag" (Heinrich Roedl in Prague, Hungary--now Czechoslovakia)

This is the first proof mark. It is hard to read but I think it is the first proof firing black powder, Weipert Proof House.

This is the second proof mark. It is the second proof firing black powder; Weipert Proof House

This is a barrel marking. I believe it indicates that it is the 840th gun manufactured in 1897--I could be wrong!

This one has me stumped. This is stamped on the underside of the bridge between the two barrels.

These are some faint marks off of each barrel. The faint numbers seem to correspond to the same number on the above image. I can't find the barrel proof mark referenced anywhere.

Nearly every part is stamped with a "1". Here is the watertable:

Note the gold inlay at the base (breech face) of the barrels:

If you have any insight, I would greatly appreciate it!

As observed, the high quality Bernard I 'rough forged tubes' were sourced in Belgium.

At the time of First Obligatory (Provisional) Proof for “Double-Barreled Breech-Loading Sporting Guns” - breech plugged tubes - the tubes were marked with Script EL of Banc D'Epreuves Des Armes a Feu De Liege and a controller’s identification mark.

The bore was 15.6 = .614" = 20g; the muzzle was 15.2 = .598".

The 1.375 is the barrel weight in Kg at the time of final proof = 3.031 #. If the barrels weigh > 3% less now, they are considered out of proof by the Belgium Proof House.
