Hello,

Just came across an H grade 12ga 1906 vintage gun with stub twist barrels. I'd like to reload some Federal paper hulls and would like to know what kind of pressure is considered a low pressure / safe load for the old girl.

thanks in advance,

tunes

Hi, tunes....

There's no hard and fast answer to your question but as a general rule you'll find an awful lot of good 1150 to 1200 fps loads that are under 7,000 psi, which is a pressure most of us feel is safe for a vintage gun in good conditon. For load information check out the Hogdon and IMR reloading sites. Should you find a load for Federal plastic that is attractive you can use that data in a paper hull and be quite safe. However, never take paper data and put it into a plastic hull.

PM me if you'd like to have my favorite Federal loads for my damascus guns.

Federal Paper Hull, Win 209 primer, 18 gr. Clays, Windjammer wad, 1 oz lead. 1180 fps @ 5800 psi.
Pillow soft and extremely effective on a skeet field.
