A recent post by NigeL drew my attention to a series 291 splendid photographs of Birmingham by the late Phyliss Nicklin,of Birmingham University, taken in the 1950s-1960s.This was a time when many parts of the city were being redeveloped to eliminate areas that had suffered damage during W.W.2,slums and to facilitate a new road system.The Birmingham Gun Quarter was in the core of this redevelopement.
In this series we find 40 approx; pictures of the Gun Quarter.We can see the streets and shop front names of makers that are often reviewd on this forum.For Example;
Price Street, 5 pics;
St Mary,s Row, 11 pics
Sand Street,
Whitall street,
Bath Street,
Gunmakers shop fronts/works seen include,W.W.Greener,Thomas Wild,Parker Hale,Midland Gun Company,Ward,William Ford and J.Carr,
Also accompanying these photographs is a description of the location and date of image.
This is an important historical archive and can be viewed on google by searching, phyllis niklin,slides of 1950s and 1960s Birmingham .

Roy - I'd LOVE to see these photographs, but using the address you gave turns up a "page cannot be found" message.

Is there any way you've typed it incorrectly?

Fantastic set of photos - all those brand new minis and Austin 1100's - wish I had a few of those Morris 1000's now - only saw one foreign car a VW campervan - where did it all go wrong?
I love the one with the building name as 'City & District Butcher Hide Skin Fat & Wool Company Limited' has a good ring to it!!!
