Can anyone recommended an excellent gunsmith for fine double guns anywhere between Chicago and New York? I used Ken Eyster once but he passed away a few years ago. Would anyone recommend the subsequent firm called Heritage Gun?

Much depends on what kind of gun you have... and what needs to be done.

Nonetheless, Brad Bachelder in Grand Rapids MI is a good geographical starting point.

Kensal,

Yes, I should have said the work I need, which is a new main spring for a double gun. I also need a screw repaired that is slight buggered.

In that case, all who've been mentioned are well qualified.

I'll second Brad Bachelder in Grand Rapids, Mi. and also add Del Whitman in Trvaerse City, Mi. Both are double gun experts in every sense of the word.

I've used them both and have been very happy with both.

Good luck.

Brad would be a great choice too. Have known him for a long time. Go to his shop often and see their work, call at least.

He made a hammer for my AYA and the service was correct the first time. I found his price reasonable.

Not enough info. If that mysterious double gun happens to be Spanish, then ship it to Cole Haugh in MO. He probably has the spring in stock.

Unless Cole Haugh moved, he's in IN.

Thanks much guys. I looked Cole up and he is in Indiana but due west of Cincinnati, a town I travel to from time to time. I will give him a call.

Milan, Indiana to be exact.

What does Cole Haugh specialize in? I'm in Indiana and have never heard of him. Is he an expert with English guns? Thanks.

Cole Haugh is the go-to guy for oddball and older Spanish guns. He can work on newer ones, too. I think he works out of his father's shop. Jack Haugh is a rifle builder of some repute.
