Could an Ithaca 4E sxs be gotten without the ebony tip on the forend? And if that same gun had extractors and not ejectors would it then be called a grade 4 and not a 4E?
The E is for ejectors. No ejectors--just a Grade 4. All I have seen have the ebony inset but I never say never. You will have to look at the other Ithaca vintage indicators. Can you post a photo both sides? e.g. top and underside.
Pictures of the top and underside of the forend correct? This gun without the ejectors and double triggers sounds like a cheaper version of 4E but it is interesting to me and I do like double triggers. Should the water table have a 4 or 4E stamped on it? As soon as I get the pictures I'll try to post them up.
No E. It is a 4E only if it has ejectors. Nothing wrong about not having ejectors. The 32 inch barrel is awesome at the traps.
Aren't 4s understood to be Es?
This quality gun was catalogued as a No. 4 with ejectors an extra cost option through the 1930 Ithaca Gun Co. catalogue. From 1931 on the No. 3 and 4 were catalogued as 3E and 4E with ejectors included. I've never seen a NID with an E included in the grade marking on the watertable.
