Dig that looks like a filthy foreigner's tube. Did you see any Belgian marks when you removed the rib?

There are no Belgian marks on it - there would not be - Purdey did buy barrel tubes from Belgium on occasion but made the barrels in house.

Tim, it is a client's gun so I'd rather not divulge the S.N.

Can you tell me if a logwood bath was used to bring out the blacker areas? I don't think so, but maybe?

Purdey seem to have changed the top rib design to a more shallow version from this 1869 Bar in Wood in the intervening five years to 1874.
