This is one of those off topic or silly postings. I acquired an old English gun case and the felt or baise has a distinct aroma, not unpleasant, and i was curious if it may have been due to something called rangoon oil(or youngs 303). A local collector said rangoon had a very distince smell that was often absorbed by the lining and was similar to the allure of hoppes. Is rangoon still available? Does it have such a distinct odor? Who may sell this in the US? Crazy, i know.

Both Rangoon oil and Young's 303 are available in the UK from Parker Hale. Young's 303 is not the same formula (and so not the same smell) as it used to be. Apparently the original formula contained chemicals that are now dangerous. I have never heard of anyone suffering from exposure to Young's 303, but we all suffer from (over) exposure to stupid safety legislation.
I imagine there would be a Parker Hale importer in the USA.

I'm confident the wonderful smell of old gun cases was the result of Youngs 303 and not Rangoon oil. I've not noticed a distinctive smell in the latter.

The USA Westley Richards Store in Montana sells it.
