I don't recall this video popping up here, so I linked to it.
It's a good show.
There are several things in it tied to current topics here.

I an making tall kills with my Ithaca waterfowler and Bismuth shot, as the migrants are coming down now. Makes me want an HE Fox.
And a case of TM.
Took a specklebelly Monday at around 60 right in my driveway. wink
Folded like a lawn chair.

Neat old Fox. Always wondered what the real story was on it's "rediscovery".

thank you so much i enjoyed the video. Bobby

I grew up knowing the family that ultimately sold it. It had been in their family for 3 generations. I had no idea of their having it until the story unfolded several years ago. Gil

That was outdamnstanding. Thank you very much.

Gil: That's very interesting.

Nash clearly lost it in a moment of distraction, so it's not like they stole it, but.....it was obviously his gun (his name's clearly printed on it) and they had to know that fact. Advertising for it's return (with a substantial reward promised) was extensive in that area (for months and even years), so there's no way they didn't know that they had his custom-built and so-identified property (and for 3 generations?). I not sure that's shining tribute to this family's reputation for honesty. You could argue that they were poor and he was "rich" by the standards of the day, but that still doesn't make it "right" to keep a man's personal property, ill-gotten or otherwise. As a gun-owner, that rankles me.

His estate & heirs (if any still exists) certainly would have had a claim on it. I'm also assuming that he made an insurance claim on it's loss, so... that should mean that the insurance company and/or it's successors had a claim on it as well. How all that got resolved before the sale would make for a very interesting story.

Dudes, that horse done left the barn long ago.

Look what they are doing with/to it.
and it's diet.

Geese running hard today.
Quite distracting as I am changing a transmission so I can go sharpie killing.

I might try a little video because Stan and George and Gil would like it.
I'd have to put down my sweet tea to take the shot~! smile

Given the curse Old Mr. Buck put on the gun if it were not returned, I believe I'd have to put a safety on Bo Whoop before I'd want to shoot it myself...Geo

"Well, I lost the big gun yesterday—terrible blow . . . If an honest person found it, I’ll get it back. If NOT (emphasis his), I hope he gets shot by the missing safety."

Has a history of the gun's background and sale.

Gil:

Thank you very much for that. The sale of Bo Whoop was discussed at length in our shop on multiple occasions before and during the sale, but no mention was ever made of that article. Net-net, it's where it needs to be now, but talk about unjust enrichment...

I kinda wondered about that too, but oh well, it's their gun. Who knows, those shells could be 'low pressure' magnum goose loads. That video seems to have a pretty slick production, why not cut out the part where they run into the dekes with the boat.

Those long tail motors are kind of tricky about catching the decoys strings. I've seen it happen...Geo

"...why not cut out the part..." where they pose with the old girl for the photographer.

"I kinda wondered..." how much it costs to shoot ducks with Bo

What's next? Video of the guy who bought the river blasting Don Thomas' books?

Kinda funny Whoop got passed around like a joint at a Grateful Dead concert and the fellow at the end of the video puts her away in the case like it's the Grail.

'Don't come back here, Yankee!' ...as I'm escorted off the grounds
'Well, if I ever do...I'll bring more money, 'cause all I want to do...' (is blast squirrels out of trees with Bo Whoop)

Cool story, thanks for posting it. If I had found the gun, and the names on it, I too would think nothing of it. But then again, I have the internet at this point.

Back in the days when there was no shame in taking long ducks, people got good at it. Bo Whoop was made for those times.

The cartridges used could easily have smoked those ducks at twice the range they were shot at. The hits weren't really that good.

I would have liked to just hear the recording of the report from down the lake when Bo was touched off with some vintage cartridges.

I'm glad the old girl was allowed back on the dance floor at least once more.

This is yours truly looking down the same barrels that Mistah Nash looked down. My heart was in my throat when it was handed to me. I shoot a 32", 3" chambered HE of my own, but spending an hour with BoWhoop was very, very special. I was a big fan of Nash's long before the gun "came out of the closet" in Savannah, and I was able to spend some time with it.

I, for one, was delighted when it was bought by Nash's hunting partner's son, who then donated it to DU. It would have been a shame for it to have been locked away for another 50 years.

I Have also been a Nash fan for 50 years, and am glad to see it where it is now, and glad to see it kill some ducks.

I was incompetent yesterday with my camera.
The birds got off the roost, flew up my driveway, and I was squeezing the button to shoot the video, and it was the On/Off button.

I'll be out in the AM.

I haven't forgot you.

It was like bending the trigger with the safety on!
It was like bending

Only conversation CZ. I would've like to have seen one of them take a shot on the water at a cripple to get a feel for how tight it patterns. I know it doesn't mean much, but it looked like one fellow knocked down a one shot triple. It made me think the patterns were a bit more open than would be thought, and sure, pure luck.

It also looked like a few tipped birds had enough to get away, but had the look like they would probably die off some where else. I wish they keyed in more on the gun, and maybe had a duck hunter look over the video before it was released. It's neat though when classic can still get out in the blind.

I'm thrilled with how the Bo Whoop saga ended up; still don't think much of how it unfolded...Geo

Me too, Geo.
And I'm sure all the parties that worked to get it into the DU museum do as well.

I'm sure Ducks Unlimited will get lots of mileage out of Nash Buckingham's old gun. That's probably a good end for an old Fox. Somehow I'd rather the gun had been shot to pieces by the old man who loved it and lost it, and passed along to his family to waste away in a relative's closet...Geo

I'm just glad DU hunted it when they got it at beaver dam

I'm glad they are using for what it was made for. If some big donors get to use it every year or so great. A tribute to a man and shotgun of another age and time. Not just leaving it on display like the NRA dose with their guns. Maybe The NRA could use this idea with their super donors. Pick a historic gun in useable shape and use it for what it was intended for. They could even put a raffle together for the life members. I didn't mean to hijack thread
