HVF is my guess.

That brought back memories of writing cursive in the 60's left handed with a Sheafer fountain pen in grammar school. Ink all over my hand and smeared all over the paper LOL!

Butt plate? Serial # lookup in the mfg ledger might give some insight if possible.

Well, I'm rather sure it's H.V.G . Have a look at some examples:

What I would like to know is, on what kid and origin of gun are these letters!

Cheers,

Thanks for all the help/suggestions. I've looked at a good many examples on the net and for now I'm calling the initials as H.V.F.

The gun is a 1913ish Lefever H grade, 32" steel barrels, SG, with some extra engraving on the lock plates.

Mike;
At some point, though I don't know the exact date, all the H grade guns came with a scroll design on the lockplates. When you say extra engraving are you speaking of more than this or are you comparing it with the earlier un-engraved H's. In the earlier guns the H was unengraved with the G having a simple line around the plates. On later ones scroll work was added to the lock plates of both the G & H. the H also got a bit of scroll on the top lever while the G also had some on the frame, top lever, tang & trigger guard. This is per a 1913 catalog, I do have some of the engraved H's but my G's are all earlier guns.

The gun has some engraving at both ends of the lockplates, in the middle of the plates, and some on the top lever, but none on the bottom of the frame. Gun also has a nice piece of wood. Serial number is 66xxx.

I'll take some photos and post this week.

Mike;
Yes that is standard for the later H grades. I do not have an H in the 50K sn range. My H's in the 40K range are unengraved but I have three above 60K which all have this same pattern.
