It is the same Flues that worked for Ithaca and deaigned the famous 4th stule hammerless gun that was produced for a long time.

He operated privately as a small maker/gunsmith in Buffalo. I cannot recall if it was before hos time at Ithaca or after.

Walt Snyder may be abke to lend more info on him. There is also a guy in Buffalo by the name of Bob Chambers that knows a lot of Flues and also owns a gun or two built by him.

Thanks for the info. This is the first one that I have seen in 40 years of collecting. Does anyone have an idea of how many guns he may have made and the years that he made guns in buffalo?.

Do a search for Robert Chambers and his old posts. You'll learn more about Emil Flues then you ever thought possible.

Flues worked making shotguns before, during, and after his time at Ithaca. His passion for building fine guns was not simply while working for others. He also worked for Charles Newton Rifle Corp. prior to Ithaca.
I own the 1881 Marlin Flues rifle shown in this link. It was built by Flues when he had a small shop in Bay City, Mi.

I believe among the best in American gun maker history. But for whatever reason he's been overlooked by most people. Myself included until I found my 1881 Marlin in a junk barrel at a gun store going out of business many years ago. Once I began chasing down his history, I was amazed that such a talent has gone virtually unnoticed for so many years.
Turns out his brother lived right here in Portland, Or., and might explain how my 1881 got here.

Here is an Ithaca Flues (prototype?) Serial #175010. Take note the barrel lug through bottom of frame and square "Greener" type cross bolt.
