Hello:

At the local auction this weekend, there are many great guns for auction. A friend of mine asked how much he should bid on the following rifle:

A. Henry West London maker
Colour cased action with "rope" engraving
Underlever with rabbit ear hammers
A beautiful English Walnut stock with great checkering
Overall condition is great.

He did not look at the barrel bores so he has no idea of their condition.

For some reason this auction is a "buyers" auction! Very low prices on the items sold.

I have no knowledge of what double rifles or this maker.

Suggestion/comments?

Oh yes, there are many Winchester Model 95 rifles for sale. On does not see them very often!

Be well,

Franchi

Just going on the description of condition Henry double rifles go for around $3500 -$6000 depending upon who's bidding and where it's selling.

Can you divulge the name of the auction house?

Pictures would help a lot. I'll make a couple of SWAG's for you.

Henry will be Brand Value level three (BV3) I''l guess this is a mid-grade Jones under lever, Original Quality grade six (OQ6). The Current Condition level sounds like level two (CC2), "Limited use - slight finish wear, little shooting;" BV#-OQ6-CC2 = $3,100 with a 3X multiplier for hammer double rifles --- $9,300. If the CC level was actually level three (Minor repairs needed or proper restoration accomplished); BV1-OQ-CC3 = $2,300 X 3 = $6,900.

I have a strong suspicion that this gun is refinished. If so and a proper job was done, we would have BV3-OQ6-CC5 = $1,336 X 3 = $4000.

Be aware that there are very few true bargains in antique guns, esp. double rifles.

OK, what did it hammer for?
