Looking for recommendations on a nice set of sling swivel mounts for a O/U. I would like to add the sling swivel mounts to a tank of an o/u waterfowling gun I own. The barrels have solid side ribs, not really looking for solder-on style swivel mounts or the type that screw into the side ribs, I’d like to find a high quality “clamp” style mount for the barrel.

Any experience with Uncle Mikes? Price is cheap...reviews aren’t great
NECG clamp mount? Expensive, looks rock solid.

Any other makers out there you’d suggest looking into?

Thanks.

I don't know what the best is for a shotgun, but I have Uncle Mikes on two lever action rifles. I haven't had a problem with them in over 40 years. Just my experience.

I have not used the side mount, screw on NECG bases you mentioned but have used tons of the solder on variety. Good stuff.

there are the leather type, but they might interfere with the sight picture. Not actually mounts but easy on easy off!! http://www.dogsunlimited.com/i/2222/gunners-magnasoft-shotgun-sling.htm

Thanks. Not looking for anything leather..or slip on. This is a working waterfowling gun that’ll see full time action in a marsh.

SKB,
Have you ever done the NECG solder on mount for a shotgun barrel? Do the barrels need refinished after the job? What would a job like that cost?

The bad reviews on the Uncle Mikes clamp mount is that it is now cheaply made in China and comes with very soft, poor quality screws that’s easily strip when tightening.

Thanks.

I got a Browning Cynergy from Browning earlier this year in lieu of them repairing an older Citori duck gun (camo finish went south). The Cynergy did not come with swivel studs which I found questionable but took the gun anyway.

Bought an Uncle Mike's setup with a clamp-on front stud. So far so good but it's not seen much hunting.....yet.

I have soldered many of them on shotgun barrels. They key is keeping the solder where it needs to be, only polish the area immediately under the base and I tin with a iron. Have to be careful with rosin flux that it does not drip and remove the existing blue. If things go right you can usually get by with a touch up blue. I usually charge around 200$ for a job like that. I can do it if you are not in a huge hurry, back logged at the moment.

Beretta has some that mount to the side ribs. Looks like two screws per side. They are on the BerettaUSA website under shotgun accessories. I think they were a little over $20.00.

Good luck!!

The current Uncle Mikes China product are junk. Soft metal. Screws do strip right out.
I have not seen the NECG product that you are referring to but have purchased many different products that they make and all have been excellent. Swivels, sights, snap caps among others. All have been well made and held up well.

I put an uncle Mikes on a 101 Winchester and it shows no sign of movement.

The old Uncle Mikes, the made in the U.S. stuff, or the new Chinese made stuff?

About a year ago...probably Chinese junk

I put blue lock tight on every thing.

The screws did damage but they were tight when they did...I'll probably have to drill the screw out to get it off.

Here is one I made from a Tally 1" barrel band rifle swivel. I had a gunsmith that said he could solder it on...I called him on a Friday he said if you bring it over today I'll have it ready by Monday or Tuesday. It was raining buckets that Friday I took it over he checked it out and said no problem...come Tuesday it was not ready...two weeks later it was not ready.
I picked up my barrels....the fool I am I took a 1940 S&W to the same Memphis bOzo 1 year and 1 month later I picked it up not repaired.

I took it to a gunsmith in middle Tennessee and it was ready in two days.

Most Gunsmiths SUCK

Thanks fellas. I’d rather not drill & tap screws to the ribs. I’m partial to the clamp type. Looks like I’m gonna pay the piper and order the NECG clamp.

Thanks!

I bought the "new" Uncle Mikes to put on my 686 Black Onyx Sporting Clays gun two years ago so I could take it pheasant hunting in SD. It served the purpose but only marginally. I hope to get the gun "coated" soon and will probably upgrade to the NECG model. I am as tight as they come but I hate junk. I noticed that a barrel band came in the case with the 20 ga Gallery gun I purchased from this site recently. I will have to look at it closer.

Looks like the same design as Uncle Mikes....probably stolen by the Chinese after Uncle Mike had his made there.

Looks exactly like Uncle Mikes. Sounds like this companies owner was a machinist for Michaels of Oregon aka Uncle Mikes. Maybe these are built like the old ones....says they’re 100% USA made. For $25 I think I’ll order a set and see what’s what.
