Ok this is obviously not your average Fox gun but the price seems a bit optimistic to me.

Who cares....

Asking and getting are two different things as we all know. You just don’t see any sell to have a baseline value. It might make that at auction or it might not by tens of thousands. It would take multiple bidders getting into a must own bidding frenzy. But if you pay 90K for it will it ever get out of a safe and get used? I may shoot and hunt with my pigeon grade 42’s but I doubt I’d shoot that safe queen.

I do know you could buy a new 28 ga. FE, 28” for $33,000 and with the extra $57,000 buy enough shells to wear it out. Or make one hell of a dove trip to South America with the 28 FE.

I've never understood the jagged gold lightning bolt thingie on the breach end of the barrels... just looks out of place.

Seller is a procurement specialist for Morphy's.
He's probably forgotten more about fine guns than most folks will ever know.
I would venture a guess that he's probably pretty close to the mark on value.
Check out his other items for sale on GunsInternational, all nice guns that run the price spectrum

To answer Frank's discussion ending statement "Who cares...",
It's only a topic for discussion Homey, don't let it twist your panties.

Not out of line at all. At the Fall 2017 Julia's Auction, Dana's other FE-Grade, 12-gauges, both the later Gough style, brought $86,250 and $92,000. Both with the slightly more common Fox half pistol grip. Dana's 20-gauge, FE-Grade, brought $166,750.

Interesting, I did not think the American double gun market was still that strong.

It is a very rare gun in a desirable configuration.

I have handled this gun at the Vintagers. It's a 10+ in my opinion.

I for one care. Thanks for the post.

You guys should go for a matched pair. Or, one in 12 and one in 20. cool

A rare and desirable gun indeed.

It's not often that something like it come's to the marketplace.

There was a time many years ago when I felt the same way. I've since changed my mind. It is a reminder, maybe even a symbol, of an era long gone, when the suggestion that this gun kills like lightning would have been much more accepted than it is in our politically correct society today. I have seen lightning bolts on several American made shotgun brands, all of extremely high quality. It's kinda grown on me. I now see it as something uniquely American, and appreciate the design as having been very acceptable in the time it was done.

It's a beautiful Fox, maybe one of the finest I've ever seen, or seen pictures of.The engraving is superb, IMO. A few years ago I handled a Fox Special that rivaled this gun in quality. It had more gold inlay than this one, and was a bit gaudy for me. This one is very tasteful, to my way of thinking.

Thanks for posting it, Josh.

Back in the 70’s, early 80’s I had the pleasure of visiting Tom Kidd at his home south of Allentown Pa. several times. My good friend Hank Peters and I would attend the Allentown gun show—Forks of the Delaware—and we’d run into Tom and he’d graciously invite us to stop by on our way home to NJ. We had the delightful pleasure of handling this gun, along with many other fine Foxes and at the time some dandy LC Smith’s! I can still remember the thrill I got shouldering Teddy Roosevelt’s F Grade 12 bore. It’s a lifetime memory. Tom had an exceptional selection of Burt Becker Foxes and Board of Directors guns. We were privileged to take a ride in Tom’s gorgeous AH Fox automobile. A striking green in color and I’ve never seen another. Guns of this caliber will always be highly regarded and sought after. Off topic a bit—Tom also had a first year 1955 Polo white Corvette with the blue flame special 6 cylinder engine with 3 one barrel carburetors and stone guards over the headlights. Tom had exceptional taste in guns and automobiles.

Viewing Tom Kidd's fine guns at Allentown was a real treat, but don't forget the great Tom Gibbons and his great "Foxes". It renews my faith in the almighty when Mr. Kidd outlived Mr. Gibbons.

Ah yes....Tom Gibbons....he tried (unsuccessfully) to relieve me of a 32" HE many years ago.

Darn it I attended the Allentown show every month and never paid attention or knew of Tom. Probably saw him or talked to him. Used to set up with Pete Danato (gun parts guy)from Somerville NJ

Ken, Tom Gibbons probably offered you more for your HE than you could get now in this depressed market. Don't underestimate the "criminal mind".

The late Gene Hill's book: "Shotgunner's Notebook" has a beautiful high grade A.H. Fox on the front DJ cover. Can any of you Fox guys i.d. it, assuming you have that great book in your library? RWTF

Must be, in certain sectors.. Anyone talked to or dealt with Kirby Hoyt recently.? I met him at the MI UP Father's Day weekend clays event in 1910-- very fine gent. He let me handle a 12 bore Churchill XXV- said I could shoot it on a clays open event to see how well it might fit me-- I passed, but it showed me what a fine gent he is- a few years later I bought a field grade 12 Smith from him- SST and EJ-- when I asked him what to add for shipping costs- he asked if I was a Veteran? "Yes"! He told me that he doesn't charge for shipping to Vets- I found that quite impressive-wonder if other dealers in the USA offer that?? RWTF

1910? Are you as old as Larry Brown?

Foxy;
Just can't pass this one up. You met Kirby Hoyt in "1910"?? Plus you were already old enough to handle a gun. My Mom & Dad were both born in 1910, which would make them 109 years old were they still alive.

That makes you a mighty Old Man.

All in fun Fox. Just try to remember that any of us can type something silly at any time. Casting stones is always rewarded in kind...Geo

Obviously when I started my post with "Foxy; Just can't pass this one up" I knew it was a typo. Ted made his post while I was typing or I would not have added to it. As Geo said, All in Fun, & anyone who has followed this board will well know I have made my share of TYPOs.

Me too- Patton was born, as was Hemingway, before 1900--I did a typo, we met in 2010 at the Sagola Gun Club, near Iron Mountain, MI- June, Father's Day week-end. I liked the 30 bird pigeon ring best, I broke 27 clays out of 30 thrown, BUT- only scored 22, as the tape tags affixed to each clay had to drop inside the fenced in circle- and even if you shatter the clay, that old devil Mr. Breeze can push the tape outside of the scoring ring. I never have shot real columbaire or box released pigeons, just a "schmidt-load' of the barn versions awing-- tricky, indeed. RWTF

Hey Bill- my Corvette "history" showed the first year of production to be 1953- with the "Blue Flame 6" in-line engine (same engine as in my first car, and 1951 Bel_Air 2 door coupe, 3 piece rear window,"three on the tree" stick shift. I believe that in 1955- Chevy brought out their first V-8- , but perhaps the late Mr. Kidd ordered the 6 cylinder engine for his 'Vette. RWTF
