Pattern it as in getting it fitted on a plate. You may discover it is not shooting where you think it is. There are times a gun which otherwise is perfectly dimensioned turns out to have chokes off center and do not throw the patterns true.

Michael has given you great advice. I would like to add that it's possible that because of the gun's balance point, it's handling too fast. I shoot neutrally balanced guns well due to muscle memory of using them. If you are accustomed to forward balanced guns, try slowing things down.

I have a Remington FE that I wanted to use for trap doubles shooting. The left barrel was right on the money, the right barrel I couldn't hit with at all.
When I patterned on a steel board I found that it was 1/2 the pattern to the right. After some judicious examinations we found that sometime earlier in the guns history someone had really botched some choke modifications causing a mis-shaped choke. This pissed me off pretty good, and I started figuring options (beside hard liquor)!
One of the double gun guys here (Ghostrider) suggested that I send the gun to Skeet's and let Dean check it out. He tuned, re-choked and moved the impact point to the center. He was able to maintain enough choke for a great first shot for my style of doubles.
But then the stock broke, my FE is back in rehab getting a duplicated straight grip monte carlo. I hope to shoot the FE at the Pennsylvania State Shoot in June, in competition and Nostalgia shoots.

It's probably too short, with too much drop at face, causing you to teeter-totter it during the mount.

Fit is nearly identical to other guns I shoot well. I have patterned and both barrels are ok. It isn't too short and drop at face it good. I will try the slow down advice and recheck patterns. I appreciate advice

It is possible to adjust a butt heavy gun by drilling out the stock and or changing a hard rubber Buttplates for a microfiber lightweight pad.

How butt heavy is it? If just a few ounces you could have a bit of wood removed from the butt to rebalance the gun. Quick way to check it is use a rare earth magnet and weight on the barrels to balance it at a heavier weight. Then see if it shoots better. I’ve seen guns with weight added to the for end or even to the barrel to get the balance right as a permanent fix. Drilling out the butt stock has limits for the weight you can reduce. Much past a few ounces might be the limit.

If you don't shoot it the same as others, it's different.

Any way you slice it, at shot, your eye, and the barrels, aren't pointing where you want them to.

I have a Beretta 425 made in 1965 28 inch barrels mod and full chokes and it just crushes birds and Clay's like no other gun I bought it used and only paid $800 for it

first thanks to those that offered suggestions. I tried slowing my mount and swing down based on one recommendation and it helped. I also went back to pattern board and tested again, surprise, not 60/40 as I thought or even 70/30 but 100% of pattern was centered but just above aim point. Make sense why clays, that are often dropping as you shoot, due to clever setters, are difficult to hit with a high shooting gun

So, if you cheek your shotgun with your eyes closed, You are seeing a lot of rib when you reopen them?

I'm just curious if the difference in this shotgun (from your others) is in the barrels or the stock is all.

Once you are positive all the variables are the same on this gun, as compared to your others, with the exception of being butt heavier, a slight change in your shooing style may help tremendously. It did for me.

When I introduced a Fox A Grade 16 to my "stable" I struggled with it on doves, at first. Realizing the huge difference in the handling characteristics of it as compared with my clays guns I decided to try something different with it. Instead of mounting, tracking the dove, and shooting when it looked right, I tried tracking the bird with the muzzles as I mounted the gun, then firing almost as soon as the gun hit my shoulder. Worked like a charm. Last shoot with it in the early season here (last Saturday of Sept. '19) resulted in a 15 dove limit with 22 shells. Some were very long shots.

Don't be afraid to try things like that before giving up on the gun. Figuring that kind of stuff out is fun and does wonders for your self confidence in the field.

Again thanks to all, I am not giving up yet. I tried mounting with eyes closed and I see right down the rib but do see most of it. It is this way with my other doubles as well. I tried standing this double , against the wall, next to one I shoot well to compare pitch. Although the stock dimensions are the same and the pitch looks the same, when standing next to a wall, the new guns barrels are an inch closer to the wall. I contacted the seller and we are going to take off the sharp toe to see if that solves the problem.

The pitch could very well be it. Another member here that I regularly shoot with had the same problem. He had a gun that should have been a good shooter for him, but changing the pitch was the cure. I hope that's the case for you, let us know how it works out.

Every gun I restock fits just right. I have the same measurements on a K-80 as I have on DH parker.

Why would the current owner allow material to be removed from the stock?

Does it wear a hooked recoil pad for shooting trap?
It certainly sounds like somebody's trap gun.

If your "serious" about killing birds or hitting clays I'd say Bill has the best method. I can modify the way I'm shooting for guns that don't fit quite right and be moderately successful. But I sure don't want to have to make adjustments to my regular shooting style on a covey rise or a 60 yard crosser in a FITASC tourney.
